Green became the classic colour for gaming table cloth by following the example of billiards, a lawn game that moved indoors. As well as recalling grass, the colour is easy on the eyes and makes cards stand out, so it eventually spread to gaming tables.

From lawn to table

Billiards developed from ball games played outdoors. When it moved indoors, the table was covered with green cloth as a nod to the grass.

Easy on the eyes

Green contrasts well with the red, white and black of many cards, and doesn’t tire the eyes during long games.

A practical choice

The cloth stops cards from slipping, protects them and makes them easy to pick up. That also makes it good for building houses of cards.

On our tables

At Lascuarenta, you can choose other backgrounds and tables, but green remains the classic. You’ll find it in the shop alongside wooden tables and other surfaces. And for a game at home, take a look at how to organise a games night.
