Probability and chance
Can you predict a card game?

You cannot predict with certainty how a card game will end, but you can anticipate which cards remain, what each player might hold and which move offers the best prospects. As the hand progresses, more information becomes available, helping you refine those predictions.
Little information at the start
After the deal, you only know your own cards and, sometimes, the face-up indicator card. At that point, it is all about probability. We explain this in probability for beginners using cards.
Every card counts
Every card played narrows down the possibilities. If the as de triunfo (ace of trumps) has already been played, nobody holds it any more. If a player does not follow suit in copas (cups), you know they are void in that suit. By the end of the hand, a good player has an almost complete picture of everyone's cards.
Reading your opponents
In betting games such as Mus (a Spanish betting card game), what people say and how they say it also matter. Here, prediction combines calculation with psychology.
The limit
The luck of the deal always leaves room for uncertainty. That is why no player wins every time, as we explain in can a perfect game exist?
