How to Play Brisca: The Rules in Five Minutes

In Brisca, each player holds three cards, and the card face up beneath the deck sets the trump suit. Everyone plays one card per trick: the highest card of the suit led wins, unless a trump is played, when the highest trump wins instead. Players draw after each trick, and whoever collects more than 60 of the 120 points wins.

What are the card values?

Ace 11, three 10, rey 4, caballo 3, sota 2; the rest are worth no points. We explain this in why the ace is worth more than the rey.

Do you have to follow suit?

In classic Brisca, you can play any card; you don't have to follow suit or beat the winning card. This sets it apart from Tute or Guiñote during the phase after the draw pile runs out. See the differences in Tute, Guiñote and Brisca.

What are the best tips?

  • Don't waste trumps on tricks with no points.
  • Keep track of the aces and threes that have been played.
  • If you're playing in pairs, add points to the trick when your partner is winning it.
